In the year 1957, a team of young entrepreneurs with long standing repute in the plating industry formed a partnership company, Grauer & Weil in collaboration with Messer's Grauer & Weil of The United Kingdom, which today has grown to be known as Grauer & Weil (India) Ltd., or GROWEL.

Growel's activities, in the early days of its inception were focused towards manufacturing and selling of Polishing compounds, Mops, Fibre, wheels etc. Subsequently, with the support of a dynamic and a fast growing vibrant Indian economy, the company grew in leaps and bounds in the next decade. It acquired and adopted newer technologies and vastly enlarged its product range which included pre-treatment & basic chemicals and so also diversified into manufacturing conventional engineering equipments like filters, agitation units, tanks, exhaust systems etc which were used in the electroplating Industry. In the year 1969, the management of the company changed hands by virtue of which the control came to rest with a larger business house.

Under the leadership of the new management, Growel entered into various new technical tie-up and JV alliances with world renowned players associated with the plating industry and, since than established itself as being the undisputed leader in the field of electroplating in the Indian Surface Finishing Industry.

Over the following two decades, Growel further expanded its business activities and entered into newer and synergetic areas of business's like manufacturing Industrial Lubes & Protective coatings and, so also diversified into real estate development.

Today Growel, with the backing of its six multi-locational manufacturing plants and a strong and an dedicated team of 800 Growelites, comprising of R&D, Sales, Supply chain and all other experts resources from across its various business segments, jointly serve the challenging demands of our valued customers and channel partners.

Research and Development

Research and Development centre of Grauer & Weil (I) Ltd; is playing a key role in maintaining its technological leadership in plating and surface finishing field by quickly responding to customer and market needs to international standards.

The research centre is equipped with sophisticated and analytical facilities such as ION Chromatography, FTIR, Micro-hardness testers, X-Ray Fluorescence, U.V. visible Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Inductively coupled Plasma Emission Spectrophotometer, High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph, Gas Chromatograph, STEP Tester etc.

It is manned by a larger team of highly qualified and experienced technocrats. The research centre of the chemical division has two main departments; one for developing new technologies connected with plating and surface finishing and the other for developing specialty chemicals and intermediates allied to metal finishing and other fields. Some of the products developed by this department have vast potential for use in metal finishing industries. Both the departments are headed by senior, highly qualified research scientists possessing considerable experience and having many ‘firsts' to their credit. The development work in the Engineering Division is carried out by an independent team of engineers with the aid of computer aided design system.

Our service centers are equipped with the modern techniques and procedures for total customer support. Every Grauer & Weil product meets the stringent quality standards set by ISO 9002 standards with every stage of production being closely monitored and tested ensuring consistent quality to our customers.

We have well equipped library facilities to update reference material, periodicals, current journals and standards of Indian and International origin. Our experts gather relevant references from the finest libraries, such as the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai University , Department of Chemical Technology, National Chemical Laboratories etc.

New research facilities are provided by housing a computer centre with terminals, feeding various sections of the research centre, which give access to International Information on latest technologies, processes and products. At Growel, research and development means large-scale investment to support innovative ideas. Our R&D department envisages projects, evaluates, implements in our own laboratories and engineers them into new processes.

Our R&D technologists gain experience, expertise and recognition from our own research and from know-how from International partners, Associates, International Conferences, Exhibitions and Seminars. R&D is the basis for on going optimization of our core technologies; Nickel, Chrome, Zinc, Copper Tin and its Alloys, Precious Metals, Electronic Chemicals etc. More emphasis is given to develop Eco-friendly processes and products used for pre-treatment, plating, passivation and post passivation, helping us to maintain our competitiveness and technological leadership.

Our process engineers are in constant contact with our customers. They introduce new processes / products into existing plants only after they undergo repeated testing in our own laboratories, pilot plant – resulting in economic viability and greater market acceptance.

R&D Laboratories attach great importance to the smooth integration of quality testing, production methods and packaging systems of newly introduced products.
